SEEN AND UNSEEN - up date

We finished the Kelly exhibition hang at Theatre by the Lake yesterday and even by Kelly standards it is breathtaking. The theatre was closed for a week for essential pre easter works so the Calvins and I were left in peace apart from the increasing numbers of staff and builders and painters who seemed to suddenly need to wander through, stop and marvel. “Who is this Percy Kelly?” one of them asked? “I’ve never seen anything like it.”
I have just put everything on the web site www.percykelly.co.uk under WORKS FOR SALE. There are 2 sections - paintings and prints.Everything is there apart from Sunflower which I just cant photograph it to do it justice. I am going to find it hard to let it go (but I always do!) Everything is for sale and all the profit goes to help the theatre keep going. You can e mail for the price list but you’ll need a stiff drink first!
We have so much beauty on our doorstep countered by so much rain that its great to have such a wonderful theatre and independent cinema as well. Be aware though that the town car parks are already extremely busy. The Lakeside car park by the theatre will fill up quite early this Easter weekend. Scene and unseen will run until 20th April and I and the team of volunteers (all fans of Kelly) will be here by rota to sell you a painting, a print, a book or a card or just talk you round the exhibition. We always learn more from every exhibition. I have already discovered a lot more about Percy’s life in the army during WW2 from one of the pictures on show.
All is now in place for the showing of the mysterious 60 year old film. There is a lovely 2 page article in April’s Cumbria Life magazine. My mystery guest is all set to come up from London for a few days to share her experience of knowing Kelly and seeing the film being made when she was 13. There are 2 showings and maybe there will be cancellations. You can always ask. 017687 74411
